New Consumer Advocate
The USC UCEDD has a New Consumer Advocate
The USC University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, Research, Education, and Service (USC UCEDD) has hired a new consumer advocate: Wesley Witherspoon. Wesley’s job is to help people with developmental disabilities vote and get involved in their neighborhoods and communities and to work with other advocates to strengthen the self-advocacy movement in California.
Wesley has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He has volunteered for the Department of Mental Health where he participated in stakeholder meetings. At these meetings, Wesley was able to give input to the directors about the goals and objectives of the Department of Mental Health. He has been involved with the self-advocacy movement in Los Angeles and other parts of the state. Wesley has attended SABE, People First, and Supported Life Conferences, and attended People First Groups in Torrance and Santa Monica. At different times, he would talk to his state and local representatives about issues important to people with disabilities. Wesley’s home and office are in Los Angeles but he can provide information and assistance to consumers throughout California.
