Bubel - Aiken K-12 Inclusive Service Learning Demonstration Project
Bubel Aiken Foundation has an earmark grant from the Office of Special Education Programs, and additional funding from State Farm Insurance, to develop an inclusive service learning curriculum which can be implemented in a variety of settings including schools and YMCA after school programs. 5 States are targeted for program implementation and field testing of the curiculum and model: CA (Los Angeles), Iowa (North Central), North Carolina (Raleigh), NY (NYC), Minnesota (Central). The goal of the project is to promote social inclusion of students with disabilities through general ed/special ed collaborative service learning projects and to assure the inclusion of students with IEPs in service learning programs and initiatives of schools. The Institute for Community Integration (Minnesota UCEDD) will lead this effort and utilizes the expertise of inclusion experts, youth and transitin experts, inclusive service learning experts, self-determination and parent experts. This model will be linked to Learn and Serve America of the Corporation for National and Community Service, Points of Light Foundation, and Youth Services America.
